An Introduction to Isbjorn

Our mission to save the Polar Bears 🐻‍❄️

In this article, we outline the potential to transform the $2T non-profit sector with DeFi and DAO governance. Exclusively on the #Avalanche blockchain.

Polar Bears rely on sea-ice to survive. As temperatures in the Arctic rise twice as fast as the global average, the loss of sea-ice is increasing. Without greatly reducing carbon emissions, two-thirds of the world’s polar bears will disappear by 2100.

Some subpopulations are stable, however trends are declining in a recent study. A large scope of the Arctic remains ‘data deficient’, a big question mark in Polar Bear conservation efforts.

(WWF, 2019)

Sea-ice melting not only effects Polar Bears, but the entire Arctic ecosystem. In the brine channels and across the ice bottom, specialized algae and bacteria grow, which acts as the baseline for the Arctic food-chain.

Polar Bear International lead the cause as the only organization dedicated solely to wild polar bears. Their conservation work & research spans three decades, with a focus on scientific research and education.

According to a 2020 IRS declaration, almost all Polar Bear International funding is received through contributions & grants. A third of which is delegated to salaries each year, leaving less than 1m for potential growth and expansive efforts for conservation research.

So that’s it. Less than a million dollars towards supporting the Arctic each year. Our global value distribution is way off. Climate-change education is scarce (see program service revenue above). Non-profit initiatives will not meet the radical change we need by 2100.

What’s the solution? 🧐

A new system for non-profits. We need to increase user-incentives to bring volume and spread awareness of declining Polar Bear populations.

Introducing Isbjorn. Our model is simple. You get rewarded for saving the Polar Bears. Isbjorn Foundation is our initiative, where using DAO governance, you can vote on the specifics of our conservation missions, and get rewarded in our native token $IGGY 🐻‍❄️

As a DAO, our progress is streamlined where users make proposals, vote, and review the decisions for our foundation. With transparent and secure transactions backed by the Avalanche blockchain. We are a movement powered by the people!

Our mission is to fund those ‘data deficient’ areas in the Arctic, and provide more technology towards tracking Polar Bears. Working alongside PBI to support their decades of research.

How we raise funds is where it gets interesting 💸

Isbjorn is a software company. We are building a GameFi platform that focuses on Polar Bear conservation education. Users play games within an interactive world to earn XP, achievements, trophies, and leaderboard placements to gain $IGGY.

Users will have their own Snow Den, spending $IGGY on marketplace items to customize their Den, much like Club Penguin. A 6% tax will be taken on all items, which will be used to support incentives within the Isbjorn Foundation and further rewards in our software.

This circular ecosystem allows us to scale rewards depending on volume.

Our mission aims to bring positive market sentiment to Avalanche whilst showcasing real-world use cases for powerful tools built on the blockchain.
